Camp SHIELD Family Bereavement Retreat
Camp SHIELD will be held August 24, 2024, at Camp Kinard in Batesburg-Leesville. Camp SHIELD will be an opportunity for the entire family to remember and honor their loved one, to grieve together outside of the funeral in a relaxed, safe and supportive setting. Families will be allowed to express emotions, share their grief, connect with others and learn positive coping skills.

Camp SHIELD is offered free of charge except for a small $50 administrative fee per family.
Camp Kinard occupies 325 acres 30 miles outside of Columbia and its unique facilities provide a great retreat experience in a nurturing, fully–accessible environment.

Why should I come to Camp SHIELD?We heal best in community. And child loss is the most devasting pain that someone can feel. Oftentimes, members of a family who have lost a child drift apart. Camp SHIELD allows grieving families connect with their family, as well as with their peers who are on the same journey.

Does Camp SHIELD really cost $10 per person?Yes! Jacoby's Shield is committed to providing quality bereavement services and resources to families at an affordable price. Camp SHIELD Family Bereavement Retreat is offered at only $10 per person to ensure that everyone can access the care they need during this difficult time.

Is their an age limit for the loss of my child?No. Whether you had a miscarriage, your child was stillborn or 50 years old, Camp SHIELD is for you.

I lost my loved one ___ years ago, can I come?Yes. It's a myth that time heals all wounds. If you are stuck in your grief, come and find support.

No one else from my family wants to come. Can I come alone?Yes, you are welcome to come alone to Camp SHIELD. We understand that families are not always able to attend together, and we are happy to have you join us.
